ORCID at VSB-TUO

  • VSB-TUO has been a member of the ORCID organisation since 2017.
  • Membership brings numerous benefits, and one of them is the ability to integrate ORCID into the university system of identities (UnIS).
  • ntegration facilitates the creation of an ORCID account for VSB-TUO members, and in the case of an existing account linking it to the user’s account in the InNET environment.
  • For ORCID accounts linked to the accounts in the InNET, VSB-TUO obtains ORCID identifiers, which can be automatically transferred to other VSB-TUO internal systems, such as phone directory or OBD system.

Linking the ORCID profile and the user’s account in InNET means that the owner of the ORCID profile marks VSB-TUO as a reliable organization that can transfer certain information to the ORCID profile; currently, this information is only information about the affiliation of the profile owner.

Create or link your ORCID ID

ORCID in the Phone book:

  • once the ORCID profile is interconnected with the InNET account, you can see the ORCID link in your profile in the VSB-TUO Phone book,
  • the ORCID link will transfer to the VSB-TUO Telephone book in 24 hours after creating or interconnecting the ORCID profile,
  • např.ORCID logo https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8564-3376

ORCID in the OBD:

  • the creation of an author's ORCID identifier for the purpose of reporting R&D results in the OBD system is regulated in a work and monitoring procedure document Entering Research and Development Outcome in RIV via the OBD (TUO_PKP_11_001),
  • based on the linked ORCID profile with the InNET user account, the ORCID iD is transferred to the OBD person code list,
  • the ORCID iD is transferred to the OBD the next day after interconnection ORCID iD with the account in the UnIS,
  • one can search all records of a certain person using the ORCID iD,
  • ORCID iD is added automatically to all records of the given ORCID iD owner.
Requests, questions, or problems with the ORCID in the OBD can be reported via idesk, OBD queue.

Log in to ORCID profile via Shibboleth

  • You can use your university credentials (personal number and LDAP password) to log into your personal ORCID profile, if you choose ‘Access through your institution’.

ORCID Usage

  • submitting a journal article (publishers requiring ORCID),
  • maintaining an up-to-date overview of publications and projects,
  • eliminating the problems with different variations of author names,
  • distinguishing authors who carry the same name,
  • logging into other systems and services, maximum convenience in combination with Shibboleth, where the university personal number and LDAP password work for logging in.

ORCID Advantages

  • user keeps persistent identifier even if s/he changes workplace or employer
  • ORCID unifies and interlinks identifiers of databases such as Web of Science, (ResearcherID) and Scopus (AuthorID),
  • using one profile, you can manage all records of publications, projects, and other professional activities,
  • ORCID facilitates sharing your profile with other researchers and
  • is independent of the producers of citation databases and other science evaluation tools, it is therefore suitable for the global identification of authors in grant applications, when submitting manuscripts to publishers, in science evaluation systems, etc.

ORCID and Other Identifiers

ResearcherID (Web of Science)

  • a tool for unambiguous identification of authors and management of their scientific publications in the Web of Science database running on the Publons platform,
  • mutual data exchange between ORCID and ResearcherID,
  • more information: https://publons.com.
