Renovation of the Building UK

Current Restrictions

Lending Department Entrance Closed and Bibliobox Relocated

  • To access the Lending Department, please use the internal staircase in the Study Room.
    The main entrance to the Library building and the Lending Department is closed until further notice due to renovation work on the ground floor.
  • The Bibliobox is now located next to the Bookomat, by the car park at the rear of the Library building.

The Central Library will do everything possible to maintain its services and remain open for as long as circumstances allow.
Please check our website and social media channels for updates on any changes to our opening hours and services.

Renovation Plans and Preparations

Preparations for the renovation of Building UK have been underway since autumn 2024. The project will involve the first above-ground floor (the building entrance and the construction of a café) and the third and fourth above-ground floors (replacement of utility systems, modifications to the ventilation system, and the creation of rooms for support centres and other university departments).

The renovation work will be carried out in several phases over a period of 18 months.

The renovation will also affect the Central Library. The planned work includes replacing utility systems, reducing the size of the book storage areas to make room for new corridors, and removing one staircase. The space created by removing the staircase will be used for smaller book storage areas.

Don’t let the closed doors of Building UK stop you.
The Library will remain open, even if the renovation causes some disruption and inconvenience:

  • Construction work in the immediate vicinity of the Study Room and Lending Department will begin in autumn 2026.
  • Noise and dust are unavoidable.
  • For a time, the Study Room will no longer be a quiet zone.
  • Unexpected utility outages may also occur.
  • While the main entrance to Building UK is being rebuilt, the Library will only be accessible via the Study Room on the second floor.
  • From there, you can reach the Lending Department by taking the internal staircase downstairs.

During the renovation, we recommend ordering items through the online catalogue and collecting them from the Bookomat. Books can be returned via the Bibliobox.
If you are a university employee with a large number of borrowed books that need to be renewed, please contact us to arrange for your loans to be renewed at your office.
