- For earlier documents, card catalogues must be checked.
- Card catalogues in the Circulation Department hold details of some pre-1995 books.
- Books are located either in library stores or on open shelves.
- On the shelves, books are arranged according to the subject using the Universal Decimal Classification system (maintained by UDC Consortium; the Library uses its Czech version).
- Always use the catalogue to track down books.

The Central Library has a collection of electronic books for perpetual access, for more information see page E-books.
Rare book collection
- The library stock contains an archival collection of rare (old prints) and older books and periodicals, acquired by purchase and gift, during the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century by the Mining Academy in Pribram.
- The main subject areas of the collection are geology, mining, physics, chemistry, mathematics and metallurgy.
- The oldest book in this historical collection is Georgii Agricolae De re Metallica Libri XII from 1561.
- These books and periodicals can be consulted in the library on request.
- A permission of a university librarian is necessary for old prints (books printed before 1801).
How do I find a book in the Library?
- Once you have found the item(s) you are looking for the catalogue lists basic details such as the author, title or year of publication.
- To find more details about the item(s) just click on the title of the book.
- This takes you to the detailed screen which will tell you the location (the Library site) of the item, and where to find it on the shelf (call number, shelfmark).
- You will also get information about a number of copies of the item, copy status (availability), etc.
